Energy Smart Rebate Program

Clay Electric now offers rebates for ceiling insulation, and installation of high efficiency heat pumps and solar water heating systems. The rebate includes conventional and manufactured homes, new and existing.

The rebates are 11 cents per square foot for insulation (e.g. $220 for 2,000 square feet of insulation); $100 to $500 for a heat pump (BTUs and SEER rating determine rebate amount); and, one cent per BTU output for solar water heating (e.g. $550 for 55,000 BTU output). For specific details, see the below Guidelines; read more about the program in the brochure and apply for a rebate by using the Application.

In 2008 Clay Electric distributed nearly $150,000 in rebates with an estimated annual savings of over 3.2 million kWh.

Energy Tips

Since heating and air conditioning usage, hot water consumption, refrigeration, entertainment and lifestyle have the greatest impact on electrical consumption, a person should concentrate their energy saving efforts in these areas first. You may download any of the below listed brochures or feel free to pick up copies at your local district office.

Members interested in discussing their electricity usage with a member relations representative should contact their local district office. The co-op provides personal energy advice at no cost.

Energy Conservation Loans

Low interest loans are available to help customers finance energy efficiency improvements for their homes. Energy conservation loans amounted to over $500,000 in 2008.

Members can borrow up to $7,500 for improvements such as high efficiency heat pumps, insulation, certain high efficiency appliances, high reflectance metal roofing, solar thermal water heating and solar pool heating.

Basic qualifications for an energy conservation loan include a good credit history, good payment record with Clay Electric and service with Clay Electric for one year. An energy survey is required.

Energy Surveys

A starting point in using energy efficiently in a home or business is the identification of problem areas. An energy survey may help identify those areas.

At a customer's request and by appointment, an experienced energy efficiency analyst will visit a home to perform a walk-through survey. Observations about physical characteristics of the home and family's energy usage will form the basis of cost-reducing recommendations.
