Remote Meter Reading

For the vast majority of Clay Electric's members, meter-reading day goes unnoticed. But for some members, having their meter read is an inconvenience. They must take time off from work or other activities to go home and unlock a gate or tie up their dog so that the meter reader can have access to the meter.

If meter-reading day is an inconvenience or hardship on you, you may want to consider participating in Clay Electric's Remote Meter Reading (RMR) program.

Remote Meter Reading enables a co-op meter reader to read the meter at most locations without entering the homeowner's property. That's because the meter reader uses a hand-held computer unit to record the meter reading that is sent via radio signal from a module installed in the electric meter. The radio signal can be received up to a distance of 1,000 feet, if there are no obstructions.

An appointment is necessary to determine if there are terrain features or buildings that might prevent the proper operation of the equipment. After installation, only an annual equipment inspection is necessary in most cases. The monthly charge is only $3.95.

Call the nearest Clay Electric district office to find out more about the co-op's Remote Meter Reading program. View an online brochure about Remote Meter Reading.
