AMI Operator

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of AMI Operator.  

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform technical work associated with daily planning and operation of the AMI Head-End and communication systems that support AMI operations. 

Primary responsibilities include troubleshooting and analyzing technical data necessary for proper operation and management of the AMI system, including the communications systems, and to meet other operational business needs within the cooperative. Provide technical assistance and support to metering and communication technicians, IT and other personnel to ensure the AMI system is operational and providing meter readings, outage and other data as required.

Essential Job Functions Include:

  1. AMI Operations. Monitoring the AMI System and identify deficiencies via reports, real time data or outside processes/parties.
  2. AMI System Diagnostics. Diagnose basic causes of trouble when interruptions occur in meter or network communication issues and utilize prescribed procedures to determine steps to be taken to restore communication.
  3. AMI System Support. Prioritize and categorize incidents and initiate corrective action to ensure connectivity and minimize downtime.
  4. Trouble Resolution. Create trouble tickets and route to appropriate group for resolution based on exception type.
  5. AMI System Data. Interpret and analyze system data to investigate AMI related issues and direct appropriate technical resources to determine problem, cause, and mitigation. Work closely with Meter shop to review meter and network device marriage files for accuracy, loading into appropriate systems and notifying appropriate departments of completion.
  6. AMI Network. Assign attributes to installed Field Area Network devices, loading into the applicable systems and verifying device authentication.
  7. Reports. Validate installation status of smart meters using various reports and systems to verify completion and identifying non-communicating meters and identifying and resolving discrepancies, i.e., verification of meter provisioning on the AMI network including number of units provisioned, communications verification after installation, and reconciliation of meters installed with the meter installation vendor or utility’s Meter Operations. Provide operational reports on network and meter incidents, performance and service level agreements.
  8. Analysis. Process exceptions related to validation of data from AMI meters. Analyze data to validate accuracy in a timely manner.

Minimum training and experience requirements for this position are a two (2) year Associate of Science degree in the electronics field plus four (4) years of related Electronics Technician experience. Additional related experience may be substituted for the educational requirements on a year for year basis.

Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

Knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for this position are:

  • Requires a technical and operational understanding of the communications systems used for AMI operations.
  • Requires the ability to solve problems and recommend solutions to increasingly complex business or technical issues, working alone or as part of a team.
  • Ability to interact with business and technical staff and to communicate effectively with people at all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent PC skills required including the use of standard MS Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, plan and prioritize work.
  • This position requires the ability to evaluate technical options, to read and comprehend electrical schematics, logic diagrams, control diagrams and other electrical related systems.
  • The physical demands of this position require occasional exposure to adverse elements and the normal hazards associated with working in the field such as opening gates, walking over rough terrain, and being in or around electric substations.

Lineman

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc. located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lineman.  This position requires a high school certificate or State of Florida GED passing grade plus additional training equivalent to Clay Electric's Lineman Development Training Program and four (4) years of experience in an electric distribution utility, preferably through the progression of Apprentice line work. This position also requires a valid Florida Class A commercial driver's license or a Florida Class A restricted commercial driver's license.

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform the most advanced and skilled work required in connection with the construction, maintenance, operations and service of transmission, overhead and underground distribution lines, protective equipment, substations and related equipment owned and operated by the Cooperative.

Essential job functions include:

Construction and Maintenance of Power Lines. Install, remove, inspect and maintain both overhead and underground lines and equipment.
Switching Operations.  Perform switching operations on energized and de-energized lines and equipment, utilizing the Electric Systems Control Manual, UAI system and all safety precautions.
Troubleshooting and Outage Restoration.  Working independently or with others, systematically perform all duties associated with troubleshooting lines and equipment to restore electric service.
Operation of Equipment.  Operate construction equipment such as line truck, bucket truck, trenchers and other equipment as required. Comply with all traffic laws and related safety rules and safe work practices.

MDM Administrator

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position MDM Administrator to join our ICT team. 

This is a highly responsible Meter Data Management (MDM) Administrator’s position within the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department.  In broad terms, the responsibilities of the ICT MDM Administrator fall into three main areas: 1) responsible for the successful implementation of the MDM system required to support AMI at Clay Electric; 2) responsible for the ongoing end-to-end monitoring, administration and support of CEC’s MDM system, and 3) responsible for identifying and delivering additional value from CEC’s MDM system on an ongoing basis.

Essential job functions include:

  1. Responsible for the Administration of the CEC MDM system. Execute and manage day to day tasks and processes in CEC’s MDM system, including:
  • Security. Manage user permissions. Create and maintain permission groups, and manage employee assignment to permission groups.
  • Jobs. Manage (create, test, troubleshoot, schedule, and monitor) system jobs and batch processes. 
  • Reporting. Create, test, schedule, troubleshoot, and distribute all MDM reports to satisfy user requests. Reports may be generated using a formal reporting tool, or simply be a dump of data using SQL queries.
  • Monitoring. Monitor and respond to system messages and alerts. Manage the process and distribution of alerts to other groups/employees.
  • Interfaces. Manage all interfaces to and from CEC’s MDM system, including user, web services, and batch interfaces.
  • Environment. Manage all application, and database environments (for Production, DR, Test, Development, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting. Troubleshoot application issues in CEC’s MDMS, including the MDM application, MDM database, and all associated interfaces.
  1. AMI Administration. Cross-train to provide support and backup for the Landis+Gyr AMI system administrator.
  2. Vendor Relationship. Liaison with CEC’s MDM vendor. Document and escalate issues to the MDM vendor that cannot be resolved on site. Ensure that vendor meets all Service Level Agreements.
  3. Quality Assurance. Responsible for all Quality Assurance for the MDM system. Primary resource for testing and delivery acceptance of all changes to the MDM environment.
  4. User Support. Support users of CEC’s MDM system, and their business processes, including employees in Operations, Member Billing, districts and other areas. Responsible for delivering MDM data to other areas throughout the co-op as requested. Assure data is available when needed for billing and other applications.
  5. MDM System Education. Aid in the users understanding of the MDM product’s capabilities to support future enhancements.
  6. Pre-Deployment Activities. Support pre-deployment activities, such as lab-based evaluations and other pre-deployment testing which will require a comprehensive understanding of application environments supporting the MDM system and associated interfaces.
  7. Performance Metrics. Track and report on performance metrics of CEC’s overall MDM, end-to-end. Responsible for meeting applicable Service Level Agreements, for both internal and external processes. Identify performance improvement opportunities for processes, the MDM application, and the MDM database.
  8. Business Continuity. Responsible for ensuring business continuity through the establishment and implementation of formal backup and recovery techniques.

Minimum training and experience requirements for this position are graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree, plus two (2) years of experience in supporting, and maintaining information and communication dependent systems. Additional related experience may be substituted for education requirements on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for this position are:

This position requires 2+ years of application administration experience, preferably with Omnetric’s Energy IP Meter Data Management (MDM) System.

This position requires experience with SQL database tools (SQL, Oracle, etc.), preferably with Oracle in a Linux/Unix environment.  Experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a Windows environment will also be considered.

This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas and designs to both technical and non-technical staff.

This position requires a proven ability to work in a collaborative manner with an extended team of peers to ensure user requirements are fully satisfied.

Individuals must be able to manage multiple priorities, in a fast-paced environment.

Experience developing end-user reports with formal reporting tools is a plus, preferably with Eclipse’s Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT).

Server scripting and administration is a plus, preferably with Linux scripting in a RedHat environment, and secondarily with PowerShell in a Windows environment.

AMI Smart Metering and Smart Grid experience is a plus, preferably with Landis+Gyr Command Center.

Experience with the MultiSpeak and CIM standards is a plus, specifically with integration of Billing Systems, Outage Management Systems, and Customer Engagement Portals.

Apprentice Meter Technician

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform basic technical work required in connection with the installation, maintenance, operation, testing and service of all types of electric meters and other related equipment. Primary responsibility includes assisting and installing, testing, repairing, calibrating and performing maintenance on electric meters and related equipment.

Essential job functions of this position include:
Meters & Power Quality. Assist in installing, testing, repairing, calibrating and performing maintenance on all types of electric meters and other related equipment. Assist in installing recording instruments for power quality investigations and the submittal process to engineering.
Meter/AMI Software & Tools. Be proficient in the use of laptop and personal computers. Gain a working knowledge of MV90 software, AMI meter testing tools and software,  and become familiar with manufacturers’ software for programming of solid state meters.
Records & Reports. Submit and record material and retirement information in accordance with established procedures, to include change outs for load increases and defective material or equipment. Assist in coordinating planned outages with members and district offices for metering equipment change outs and maintenance projects. Assist in maintaining the necessary records and periodic reports required for proper control of all electric meters and related equipment maintenance programs.

Electronic Technician

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc. located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Electronic Technician.  This position requires a two (2) year Associate of Science degree in the electronics field plus four (4) years of related Electronic Technician experience. Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform technical work rendering prompt, efficient and reliable repair service to all communications and electronic equipment within the Cooperative. Primary responsibilities include installing and testing all new communications equipment that may be used between employees or between employees and members for communication purposes. Work also includes helping with the training of all employees in the proper use of vehicle radios, base station radios, decoders, pagers and other radio equipment.

Essential job functions include:

Circuit Boards. Troubleshoot, analyze and repair electronic imprinted circuit boards. Repair electronic cards and panels as needed.
Install Equipment. Install and program telephones, SACDA RTU”s and associated equipment, 960 MAS, microwave and all associated communications equipment, radios, repeaters, data radios, supervisory control, and radio base stations.
System Maintenance. Perform maintenance to telephones, SCADA, metering equipment, and Load Management equipment including 960 MAS, microwave, and all associated communications equipment and batteries. Install, repair and maintain all two-way radios, pagers, repeaters, data radios and cameras. Check and repair, if necessary, supervisory control and radio base stations. Troubleshoot WAN router and associated equipment.
AMI Equipment. Assist in the set up and installation of AMI communications equipment.  Support AMI operations, as needed,   to ensure the communications system is functional and reliable.

Engineer – Substation Division
