Power System Operator Trainee

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., the 8th largest cooperative in the nation, located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Power System Operator Trainee. Clay Electric is located in north Florida, with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and both college sports and NFL.

Individuals in positions allocated to this class will train and learn to perform efficient, courteous and reliable dispatching service involved in the operation of the power system. This includes receiving and dispatching trouble calls and other calls for service, making good decisions and taking appropriate action by restoring service utilizing supervisory control on transmission and distribution system in accordance with operating procedures.

Essential Job Functions include:

  • Perform Dispatching Services. Receive and dispatch trouble calls and other calls for service. Dispatch service crews during outages. Coordinate with power suppliers and other personnel during major outages or required switching. Write and execute switching orders for, and issue clearances on, transmission and substation equipment in parts of the system covered by Energy Control operating jurisdiction, in a manner that will ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
  • Supervisory Control System. Make decisions and restore service by supervisory control on transmission and distribution system in accordance with operating procedures. Implement CEC’s load shedding procedures during generating capacity shortages or emergency conditions when requested by Seminole’s System Coordinator or the FRCC Reliability Coordinator. Control generators and load management systems as requested by Seminole.
  • Monitor Power System.  Monitor  voltage  and  load  levels  on  the  power  system  and   take corrective action on system alarms for SCADA/Load Management and power system. Receive and relay pertinent information and data as received. Obtain weather information important to system operation and load management and take appropriate action as necessary.  Report major outages and other unusual conditions to Energy Control Supervisor.
  • Operation of Equipment. Operate all equipment associated with the Energy Control Center such as computer systems, radios, printers, paging equipment and load management equipment.
  • Produce and Distribute Documentation. Maintain records and logs as required by operating procedures. Distribute documents to appropriate personnel.
  • Safety. Practice safe work habits in the performance of all job duties and be familiar with and strictly adhere to those portions of the Cooperative Safety Manual that pertain to his/her job and work area.
  • Coordination. Help coordinate activities between CEC and Seminole, FP & L and DEF  on repair and patrol of their lines during routine and emergency conditions.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

This position requires an AS or AA degree from an accredited college plus two (2) years of experience performing OH/URD line construction and maintenance, substation maintenance or related duties, preferably in a utility environment. Additional specifically related education in a technical or electrical related degree program may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Additional related job experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

Senior Engineer

Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc., located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of Senior Engineer for the Operational Technology area of the Engineering Services division to perform a variety of technical support functions related to development, implementation, integration, and automation of power delivery technology systems used by cooperative personnel.

Persons in this position will administer, customize, and integrate control and support systems hardware, software and databases; create, support, administer and maintain in-house databases, websites, data portals, advanced operation analysis programs, and computer networks; provide project management for communication equipment and systems; create and implement cyber security practices; act as a project manager, team leader, or team member in the development of capital or maintenance projects, technical system improvements, and regulatory compliance programs.

Persons in this position will have related experience in engineering principles; electric utility operating, testing, or maintenance practices; Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), distribution control systems, cyber security and secure IP routing; data communication systems administration and support.   Advanced proficiency in the Visual Basic programming language is highly desirable.
Persons in this position will be able to interact effectively with various CEC work teams, contractors, and with the public; demonstrate good oral and written communication skills; evaluate and implement industry standards; troubleshoot a variety of technical problems; and design, automate, and integrate advanced operation analysis programs.

Education & Experience:
This position requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in electrical, mechanical, or computer science fields plus three and one half (3 ½) years of related experience, one (1) year having been equivalent to the level of Engineer at Clay Electric Cooperative.

Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
